Veterans Repertory Theater is pleased to announce our latest Resident Artist, writer, actor, and director, Jeremiah Jahi. Jeremiah hails from Atlanta, Georgia. He graduated cum laude from The City University of New York: Brooklyn College where he studied Africana Studies, Political Science, and Theatre. Jeremiah later received a graduate degree in Sociology from The City University of New York: City College. He is a proud recipient of the Frances E. Williams artist grant. Also, he is a United States Marine Corps war veteran (Desert Storm). It was the choice to join the Marine Corps that he says forever changed his life for the better.
In 2005, Jeremiah formed Soldier Filmworks, Inc. as a company to create his own independent media projects. The same year, to expand his skills as a filmmaker, he began studying film production and theory as a continuing education student at the School of Visual Arts in New York City, which he would do for three years. Shortly after SVA, Jeremiah wrote, directed and starred in the award-winning short film, The Meeting, which screened at over twenty-five festivals and won four awards (Arizona Black Film Showcase 2006, Cine Noir, now North Carolina Black Film Festival 2006, Texas Black Film Festival 2007, and Newark Black Film Festival 2008). After taking a break to develop as a person, as an actor and writer, Jeremiah proudly released his experimental debut feature film as writer/director called, Never Came Back in the spring of 2017. The film went on to win the audience award at the Gary International Black Film Festival in 2017, in Gary, Indiana.
Jeremiah is currently building his production company under its new name Ashview Heights Entertainment, Inc. The first production under the new name was the award-winning short film Casualty of Time. The film was developed as a part of the Los Angeles County Museum of the Arts program for veterans called, LACMA: Veterans Make Movies. Casualty Of Time is currently on the film festival circuit and has competed in several film festivals around the world. It is the winner of The Veterans Award at the Care Awards Film Festival 2020 in West Virginia and finalist at several other festivals. Jeremiah is in pre-production on the short films Uniforms, Zebra Night and Episodes. Also, he is in development on the feature films, My Daddy and Me…And My Brother and The Two of Us, as well as the short documentary series Shut Up in My Bones.
Jeremiah has several scripts completed or in development including the features scripts, The Two of Us, The Recruiter, as well as the short film scripts, In Due Season, Dining Hall Desert, Zebra Night, We’re Out of Black Make-Up, The Table, The Recruiter, and Running for My Life. He is a past writing fellow in the WGA’s Writers Guild Foundation 2019 Veterans Writing Project for emerging veteran writers where he developed an original pilot. Jeremiah is holding steady and true to his motto, “Keep Moving”.
