To all the dads out there, THANK YOU!! Through this organization we are connected to so many volunteers and artists who are fathers, and we have the incredible opportunity to see how fatherhood has impacted their work. From the entire team at VetRep, we appreciate you for being providers, care-givers, partners, lawn-mowers, trash-taker-outers, ball throwers, mentors, story readers, chauffeurs, supporters, and generally having some great shoulders to lean on. For everything you dads do, for your families, for your kids, Thank You.
Saturdays at the Parlor are selling out! Yesterday was standing room only, so don’t get caught without your tickets for July! We are currently playing Central Park West by Woody Allen, with a special performance of 15 Dead Souls by our 10-minute play competition winner, Leilani Squire. July is bringing a night of thorough excitement with Death Before Dress Rehearsal, which includes 7 10-minute plays all from competition finalists and winners. Snag a seat while you still can!
We are currently offering multiple dates for our online and in-person Playwriting for Veterans classes, and our Acting for Beginners class is now being offered weekly every Saturday from 10am-12pm. Scholarships for qualifying veterans, as well as multi-class passes are available. Registration details can be found here.
There’s still time to submit your work! Our semi-annual playwrighting competition comes to a close in just five weeks. Submit your 10-minute plays by midnight on July 3rd to be considered in this competition.
Playwrights must be - Current or former: US military, law enforcement, fire service, EMS, foreign service, intelligence service, DoD employee, DoD Contractor; or an immediate family member of the service member.
Plays can be any genre and any subject matter. Playwrights may submit more than one play. Plays should not have been previously produced and/or published. Winners and finalists will be notified via email no later than December 31, 2023 (note: we will make every effort to have results back to submitters ASAP, however, in order to ensure fair treatment of each submission and to plan for any contingencies which may arise, we are providing a worst-case scenario for our timeline). There is no participation or submission fee. There is no guarantee that winners’ or finalists’ work will be produced by VetRep. The 10-minute play winner will receive a $1,000 grant, second place will receive $750, and third place will receive $500.
If you like what you see here on the blog, please share with your friends! We are always taking submissions for content so if you are a veteran artist please follow this link to find out how to send in your work.
