We are the tale tellers with no tales left to tell, lest they fall on deaf ears.
The lost souls, who spend short eternities finding themselves in the void between death and rebirth.
The hard ones, who have seen too much pain to ever love again, and have seen too much beauty not to.
The forsaken beloved, who love violence too much to love themselves or be loved, but love too fiercely to be ignored.
We are equal to no equal. We have charred our skin to the bone, kissing the fatal fires of life, and regrown, again and again so many times that all that’s left is a weathered, tattered, weary, but wiser, soul. We are doomed to the fires of the world, but are blessed with the qualities only one who has willingly kissed the flame can ever know.
We are not sane. Because we have lived longer than we ever should have. And the world hasn’t a clue what to do with us. Because unlike many of them, we have lived; unafraid of the fire. So accustomed to it that we welcome it. And we could never be the same. Nor would we.
