I call it tabling. Set up a table. Cover it with a cloth that says Vet2Vet. Put out brochures. PTS, TBI, military rape, homelessness, suicide. The usual veteran interests. I look for those who look. They see my table. The word vet haunts them. They come closer, suspiciously, guardedly, maybe a little frightened. They look closer at my table, my papers. Their faces, there is war in their faces. Anger fights grief. Shame fights hope. Vet stuff, I say. You a vet? I am asked. Yes. Army. Viet Nam. My words stop the battles on their faces tears fill eyes. I hear of sisters and brothers dead in war. I hear of mothers and fathers, a mess of brains left behind Families savagely lashed to the past. Ghosts. They see ghosts at my table. They offer love. Share ghost stories.
Everett Cox was born and raised on a farm in Warwick, NY. He worked as a laborer most of his life, including 25 years as a self-employed housepainter. He enlisted in the U.S. Army 1966, serving first with Third Infantry Division, Germany and finishing his enlistment with the 245th Surveillance Airplane Company, Marble Mountain Airbase, Viet Nam, 1969. He has a wonderful son.

It’s about Sidney Bruhl - a successful Broadway playwright with writer’s block and a recent spate of box office failures. Desperate to break his dry-spell, Sidney finds hope in Clifford Anderson, a student in his seminar class who has submitted a thriller script, cleverly titled Deathtrap as well. Can Sidney convince Clifford to collaborate and give him co-credit? Or is there a way to cut Clifford out altogether and get sole credit?
