These two strays and I
We’re still tangled in our own fences
chain link leaving rust lines
on our hearts that beat
afraid and fast
These feral things and I
They stay every night
They beg to be touched
through grit teeth low growls
we shake out the need
for a sign of tender things
for the hands at 3am
That will reach when I reach
and put me on the bed
for the spaces at
knees, backs, shoulders, feet
that seem to have space for me
These savage animals and I
Unfit for anyone
but found and still half-wanted.
Love me like a stray
Love me out of corners
Love me on pillows and couches
I will destroy
afraid and fast
and savage
