Hey folks,
Thanks a lot. You took the plunge with me on Savage Wonder. The numbers have been great and I’ve deeply appreciated the support.
But now has come the time to transition to what, in my mind, was always a possible Phase II.
Savage Wonder will now be the literary blog of the Veterans Repertory Theater. It will feature podcast announcements for the new Savage Wonder podcast, as well as an increasing number of literary entries from our veteran writers.
And you’re still subscribed to it all.
Those of you who were on paid subscriptions - your billing has been switched over to VetRep. We look forward to offering you discounts on swag and memberships when we launch them, but, honestly, that will be a while from now.
So why bother committing to a paid subscription at all?
I’ll steal some thunder from our new “About” page:
The purpose of VetRep is build a creative hub at the intersection where veterans and artists cross paths. We look to nurture veterans with creative talent and ensure that veterans no longer remain the most underrepresented group in American theater.
Why should you care about veterans in the arts?
Veterans have been exposed to danger, austerity, stress, task saturation, exhaustion, trauma. They have seen humanity at its most extreme – war, famine, drought, disease. They have experienced the emotions that come with such extremes – violent terrors, quiet fears, the weight of loneliness. Then there’s the dark humor, discipline, self-doubt, the giddy camaraderie. In short, veterans have a wealth of experiential knowledge that can make for wildly unpredictable, compelling, entertaining stories.
Isn’t that worth supporting?
Of course, you are welcome to donate to us instead of subscribe, but we’ve found it’s easier for some people to subscribe than to donate, and, as a nonprofit, we want to do whatever is easier for you so you come back often. Of course, if you’d rather donate, we totally understand and if you’re inclined, please click below.
And if you haven’t thrown a nickel our way before, I thank you in advance if you choose to do so now, whether via our donation button above or by receiving a paid subscription below.
And if you didn’t commit to a paid subscription or donate anything right now, don’t worry. I still consider you intelligent, wise and stunningly good-looking. And I still thank you for subscribing (for free) to what I think will be an increasingly robust operation here.
By the way does our new focus make you think of someone? Someone that might like to know what we’re up to? Please let them know. If they’re half as cool as you, we’d like to get to know them.
Thanks for coming along with me this far. I think this is going to be a much richer experience for you going forward. And I’m grateful you’re along for the ride,
Chris
PS - Are you a veteran or immediate family member? Do you want to write plays? Poetry? Novels? Subject matter and genre are entirely up to you. Reach out to us. We don’t take just anyone that asks to write here. But we do take your submissions seriously.
