Great love stories are a part of my blood
When my great grandfather set eyes
On his wife for the first time
He knew
And then he shipped off to France
Where he fell in love with her
Pressed against the walls of a trench
While men blew up above him.
Love at first sight runs deep in my history
Just like war
Just like faith
Like the letters she kept for three years
Until they saw each other for the second time
And again, and again for the rest of their lives
Passing on the legacy of one sure shot
Fired at exactly the right time
Can cross over every battlefield in France
Just to land
in a town called Snowflake, Arizona
Where the most heroic thing that man
Ever did
Was leave the war behind and love
