"Si Vis Pacem, Para Bellum"
By Marshall McGurck
When the gates of fire close,
where will the warrior go?
Home to ploughshares and planting?
Nay, return to the dirt and grime
of local training grounds where
lead and steel still reign supreme.
The line must hold in training,
to remain sharp as a freshly stroped
razor. Phalanx to farmers no longer
Warriors weapons dulled by combat
return to the anvil and forge.
The newly honed edges stand ready
to be dulled once more
Marshall McGurk is currently on active duty. He has served in the 4th Infantry Division and two Special Forces Groups and is a veteran of Iraq and Afghanistan.
