Folks,
Thank you. No, we didn’t make it a completely sold-out show at the Parlor last night - for all the record keepers out there, it was our first non-sell out yet. But falling only two seats short was pretty darn good for a last minute push and the energy in the room was great! So much fun to celebrate these great shows with you guys.
To those of you who still haven’t seen our staged reading of ART - come out next week. Because we’re only going to get more crazy with festival preparation this week - so do us a favor and fill up the Parlor next Saturday so we only have to focus on marketing one event at a time (“Whose idea was it to launch a festival the same year as we launched the Parlor anyway?” - Lilla).
Now let’s shift gears back to the Savage Wonder Festival of Veterans in the Arts (May 29! At Sugar Loaf Performing Arts Center!) We are a tricky event to promote, if I’m being honest. We’re family-friendly, but we’re also staying true to honoring our veteran artists and sharing their work - no holds barred. That’s why we suggest that only festival-goers 13 and over attend the film screening of Last Out: The Elegy of a Green Beret and some of our spoken word performances. It’s important to us that festival-goers understand, relate, and enjoy the work of these world-class veteran artists. It’s important to us that families be a part of this uniquely American holiday and that we cater to festival goers of all ages, but in a year that’s seen the end of our war in Afghanistan, a disastrous withdrawl from Afghanistan, the start of a new war in Ukraine (that doesn’t involve us militarily…yet), and the continuing spike in veteran suicides, it’s also important that we ensure that THIS Memorial Day weekend is about more than just the start of summer.
But that still leaves the question…how do we plan to entertain the kiddos at the festival?
Sure, we can go on and on about the facepainting or Soda Jerks’ phenomenal ice cream floats or the service dog demonstrations or the great food. But how’s this:
That’s right - the Guinness Book of World Record-holding Human Cannonball will be performing twice during the festival. Check out our schedule here for details.
All that for only $5 a ticket - and with all the proceeds going to four local veterans nonprofits?
So…why haven’t you bought tickets yet?
Help us prove the concept of the Savage Wonder Festival. Help us start something that can be an annual event that brings a whole new sphere of entertainment to Hudson Valley, raises the profile of veteran artists across the country, and provides a whole new revenue stream to local veterans nonprofits.
Thanks folks. We seriously cannot wait to see you at Sugar Loaf on May 29.
Chris
