remember the beaches the bombs the blood the brave raining down from the sky rushing in with the waves the fight for freedom the price they paid laid down forever in the sand for us that day Arriving with fear in their heart but with a bravery that would outweigh it they entered the water and they ran upon the sand in a land far from all that they loved.. Some understanding, some volunteering, some being told. And far too many that would never make it home.

Regarding this D-Day poem, she writes, “I share this every year. I end up tweaking it a little bit every time. I’m not in love with the way that I have ended it as I feel there is so much more I should say but don’t know how to completely honor them but I still am compelled to put it out there knowing that maybe the next year is when I will feel it is more complete.”
