Please let me rush in
The cutting rain and wind has given me haste
All I crave is a seat, a drink, and an escape from the elements
Physical and mental
You already know
Two fingers of scotch
Neat
Before anything else to order
An unspoken exchange of nods brings a smile
An agreement that requires such little effort
Thank you dear
I promise to keep to myself
A quick scan of the menu
And an even quicker exchange for what I’d like for dinner
The faster I order the faster I can turn the pages
Diving into the man who is
Ethan Frome
In a moment of my life I didn’t predict
I’d find myself meeting the plot of these delicate pages
With excruciating reality
I still miss the serenity of escaping the bitter elements by sitting in a warm venue
With an even warmer glass of whiskey or scotch
With a book in hand
Food on the way
And a full setting of people to watch
