I wish I could sit on a front porch.
Drinking coffee, watching the rain.
If I sit too long I’ll become anxious
or worse, tired. So I take to the streets
to feel the cool spring rain
as it washed a way the dust.
There are fires burning.
Fires burning all around.
My dog doesn’t like getting wet,
yet she understands the importance
of feeling the rain run down your face.
When everything becomes nothing
and I’m high on something more,
I think…it must be the petrichor.
Why did she say that?
Is that all there is to say?
It’s all quickly forgotten, I think.
For the rain it does soak deep
and it smothers fires
and it rinses away.
I suppose wouldn’t mind sitting
if it weren’t for the freshly fallen rain.
