Some men's numbers came up, they were drafted,
while others dutifully volunteered,
they packed bags, kissed wives, then the kids were hugged.
I wonder, did they enjoy one last beer?
Then they suffered through basic, some airborne, all green.
Young Soldiers, load the warships, then set off.
In one short day 4,414,
lay buried, forever, beneath a white cross.
But they were the greatest generation,
destined to be so much more than their war,
they returned, rebuilt a grateful nation
to levels it had never seen before.
We learned countless lessons from these heroes,
with pride we watched America come alive!
Through 'Nam, then a Cold War, and yet, we rose!
No wonder we thought she could never die.
Now decades later, and terror, our global war...
our nation overflowing with premadonnas...
Can we exhume our spirit,
THRIVE AGAIN!, once more,
and halt the descent,
to Pax Americana.
