I’ve been told to be more careful
guarded and self-focused
as if
this is the key to happiness
as if beginning again doesn’t feel as good as it does
Pain has its way
of finding me wherever I hide
and I would rather
spit the shame out of my mouth
for being found unguarded
I can stare it in the face without salt
doors open and walls undone
I’ll let it bleed and bleed and bleed
and the once upon a time weak thing
will be an open artery
and god, even when it hurts
it’ll feel too good
