I sit in a barren forest
More so an ocean of sand
I never saw the life the small saplings had
But evidence of their death is everywhere
I cannot feel each individual grain that’s carried with the refreshing breeze
But I still know there’s a never ending flow
Each particle that was there is here
And now everywhere
Every step of mine slowly washed away
Erasing what was in that moment
Tomorrow no one could know I was there and the day after no one would know you were either
There’s always a new day
New highs and lows
As I look out and see I think of a book
Full of words, paragraphs, and chapters
The small grains like one off short instances
Holding the form of words
The outcroppings of branch’s of dead bushes being repeated small interactions
Enough impact I can formulate a paragraph or several
But woe is the intensity of the dunes itself with such a memorable impact that I can never forget
Full chapters of those who define the ocean of sand
Each component holds immense value in defining this whole experience,
But there will always be supporting and main roles even in such a place
As much as I could hope to horde the piles and make my own castles,
The sandbox of life itself will continue on without hesitation
There’s no way to control it
And that’s how I hope it stays
