Is it cruel of me?
Wishing that you’d let go.
Hoping you’d see it sweeter
than holding onto bygones.
Mother, is this guilt ailing me?
I’m making it up as I go.
Giving wrong words to feelings
I hadn’t learned to express.
Tankful of coins from the jar,
hopes’ running on empty.
Parked on the front lawn,
mourning rusted out the frame.
Mother, is the anger boiling in me?
A man’s praying to God
to ease his fear of being alone.
The choice is yours to own.
Yours and yours alone.
