He'd look with pride at the man I am today
Not knowing what it would cost
So small and fearful
Most if not at all out of his control
Just gotta make it to the next day
And the day after
With glee he'd feel
No longer hiding behind a flimsy door and lock to avoid
wrath
Now in an up armored SUV
Not realizing that the most deadly rounds wouldn't come
from the outside
But rather the screen in my hand
Salivating he'd be so excited
Having no need to wonder when his next meal when
come
Now that the plates are full and plenty of well crafted
dishes
If only he knew that the hunger for purpose now
consumes his desires
Never again would he feel heavy shoulders
At the thought of where he'd get his nights rest the next
week
Given the splendor of staying at a Ritz or a Regis on the
company's dime
Without any idea of the nonstop travel guaranteeing that
every massive size bed would be only filled with one
From boy to man
Still taking it day by day
Problems of the past replaced with challenges of today

What’s happening at VetRep…
Join us for an intimate evening of theater in the heart of Cornwall at our cozy Parlor on Quaker Ave. The final Parlor performance of the year will feature seven, 10-minute plays authored by veterans, including plays that have won grants through VetRep’s bi-annual Playwriting competition. Settle in with a winter mocktail and dessert while we explore drama, comedy, and all the feelings in between through each short play.
