We packed a lot into our second year. 2 seasons of shows at The Parlor, 2 playwriting competitions, The Savage Wonder Festival, and our very first Savage WonderGround. We can promise that we won’t be slowing down in 2023 either.
The Parlor
After so many submissions to our playwriting competition, we’ve been able to pull a significant amount of work to create a fully veteran-written season. Building on the success we’ve had in providing local, intimate, micro-performances of incredible plays, we couldn’t find a better opportunity to showcase our veteran playwrights than to perform their work right on Quaker Ave.
Savage WonderGround
Our team is pretty excited to expand outside the Hudson Valley with more performances like the WonderGround we put on in Alexandria, VA this past Veteran’s Day. Cities like Boston, New York, and maybe some down south seem like obvious choices, but official announcements will be forthcoming in the next few months of the year. Savage WonderGround is a multimedia, immersive experience bringing together elements of visual art, music, spoken word, and theater, with a focus on artists local to the cities where we present. Read the Zebra Press write up of our November performance here.
Our 3rd Playwriting Competition
Submissions for our 3rd playwriting competition will be open until July 2023, while we are not accepting full-length plays for this competition, 10 minute play submissions are welcomed. The competition is open to Current or former US military, law enforcement, fire service, EMS, foreign service, intelligence service, DoD employee, DoD Contractor or immediate family of a US military service member. You can find more details on how to submit, as well as the grants that are awarded to winners, here.
Productions
In addition to the Savage WonderGround performances, we are also in the beginning stages of production for multiple full-length plays. We can’t wait to announce more like our incredibly popular workshop of Anton Sattler’s Local Gods, as well as casts, directors, and eventually, the show dates we’ve all been working so hard towards.
