Despise this modernity.
its lack of necessity,
that drive entire meaning from man’s lonely life.
The fatally funneled
in civility’s tunnel
have lost the pure wildness of struggle and strife.
Pure feasting is shallow
if creation is fallow;
the crux there to conquer, to live and to die.
Cry no lament!
Keep soul unbowed, unbent!
An era of hard-handed men is well-nigh!
Cokie has spent well over a decade behind a sniper rifle in service to the U.S. Marine Corps, various private military companies, and the almighty dollar. He has also spent time as a combat medic and a seminary student and now places his identity as a man who serves Christ and loves his wife and children.

Cokie is a fantastic poet. Not sure I want hard-handed men leading the charge for anything, though. Those guys are usually tyrannical.
