Colors of autumn
exchanged
for gray skies,
and the grimy white
of salt covered roads.
Her alabaster skin
now faded and dry,
resembling the empty
midwestern pools
in late-December.
They said the days
would become longer,
more bearable, so
she sings for solace
from a deceitful solstice.
