The lingering smell of burnt cordite
Wafts through the air on the wings of death.
The fire in the destroyed gun truck rages, and
The Marine with smoke-filled lungs wheezes.
Burning ammunition explodes,
We can’t look away from this grisly sight
On this warm September night.
