I am Jack's raging discontent.
The sum total of a life spent chasing things I never wanted,
but I was told I should.
I was told they were good.
Normal people have things.
They don't chase dreams
(unless that pursuit brings in more taxes)
then we should encourage that.
So we all walk around patting each other on the back
for our toys, and our clothes,
for our vacations, and that new nose job.
The tummy tuck. Pec implants.
The sum total of our social media following
But I've mentioned nothing
that will bring us peace
So we work our 9 to 5
but never feel alive, unless it's the weekend.
We work ourselves ragged until we get some awful disease
like COVID-19,
or rampant depression.
Cirrhosis from too many weekends, or work nights not learning our lesson.
I recently found the meaning of all this.
Life, at least mine, I mean...
and I'm finally getting it back on track.
I'd love to tell you more,
but the first rule?
I'm not supposed to talk about that.
