I have sought only steel and edges
closed doors
the back of the hand
jagged rock and bone
for I am terrified
of a love too soft
it has never felt like my love
or what I know
and yet there is tenderness
in your violence
it is made to hurt in such a way
that adoration is never far from the pain
pronounced and evident
in all the ways it aches
showing me it is not only
in the name of what answers the call
of your deepest desires
the needs of just your heart
but decidedly and divinely
for my own
