As the winter approaches
I find it much easier to sit and reflect on the crest of a sea of dunes
The sun still overhead,
but the heat far less consuming
I can ponder with ease
As the cool breeze blows
The desert whispering its deeply held secrets
A rat scurries into the void
Trying to fill its gluttonous belly
Wanting it’s cake and to eat it too
Never full never enough
The hawk and snake patrolling from surface and sky
Seeking to find its next prey
Patiently waiting to sink into a helpless and weak victim
Keeping lean from one kill to the next
I can’t help but imagine the armies that trekked across these lands
Step by step
Dragging through the deep sand
Not knowing if it would be the land or man that would be their end
Still they walked
Hoping for a sign of life
Civilization to shelter and feed
Because Mother Nature is far less kind
Although much life has made passage
There’s no tracks to prove
Every imprint
Every drop of sweat
Every bit of blood
Erased
All with a swift breeze
It’s good that way
A constant reminder
Of the temporary
The toils that consume and the joys we embrace
Will come and swiftly go
As the desert takes it soft breaths

What’s happening at VetRep…
VetRep is proud to present Michael Frayn’s “Chinamen” for our November and December Parlor shows. This legendary British farce has five characters and only two actors, and you won’t want to miss the final, hilarious performances of the season. We have enjoyed sold out shows all year, and while there are worse problems we could have, we want to encourage you to get your tickets to “Chinamen” before they disappear!
Join us for the December 7th performance of War Words with New York Rep!
War Words is a Pulitzer Prize nominated docu-play in the words of the men and women who served in the U.S. Military during the Afghanistan and Iraq wars, based on the playwright’s interviews with veterans of the 20-year Long War and their families. You can get discounted tickets to the December 7 performance – where VetRep will be hosting a post-show talkbalk - just use the code VETREP07 at checkout.
Our Acting for Beginners class is now being offered weekly every Saturday from 10am-12pm. Scholarships for qualifying veterans, as well as multi-class passes are available. Registration details can be found here.
