I walk along shaded paths
lined by southern oak
dripping Spanish moss
sun and water soaked
on windy days the lowest hanging
sweep the markers clear
slowly wearing away the names and dates
until only blank stone appears
that the living strain to read
while below the dead intone
look with eyes closed and find
the name inscribed is your own
