I do not believe God made me to submit
Maybe he pulled me from the rib of a man
Or maybe from the dirt itself, like Adam
He could have made me from the nuclear fire in the sun
Or the lava rocks at the bottom
of the pacific
Of all the materials God had laid his hands on
The story they tell is a rib.
A single simple bone
Where is the rest of me
Where did God gather it from
What did he knit me and my mother and her mother and her mother and her mother from
When he pulled the rib
Out of that man
Did Adam scream into my ears
The breath of life
Or was it God
